A Letter from Leadership Council

Welcome back to school Haigers!

Another exciting year has begun and it is sure to be as great as the last. Earl Haig Secondary School is truly a wonderfully well-rounded school blessed with a great academic program, a strong arts program, and fantastic extracurricular activities. For those of you in the higher grades, you must all be aware of the importance of extracurricular and are all hopefully no stranger to the biggest club at Haig: the Leadership Council. For those of you who are in Grade 9 or are new to the school, the Leadership Council will definitely become one of your best friends during your stay here.

Consisting of over one hundred student members, the Leadership Council works extremely hard to enrich everyone’s high school experience. We are involved in dozens of school activities and collaborate often with staff and other clubs to bring spectacular events to Earl Haig. LC will play a major role in the lives of every student. Our members can be seen during Grade 9 Orientation Day, TTC School Photo Day, and Commencement. Each year, we introduce Grade 8s and their parents to the school and its facilities and teach students about First Aid. Our hardworking executive team puts together monthly leadership workshops where students can learn about different leadership styles, and hone their people and social skills. LC is divided into five main committees: Events, Programs, Volunteers, Promotions, and Finance. The Events Committee is for those interested in large scale activities, while Programs is most suitable for serious people. The Volunteers Committee raises awareness and organizes charity events. For those interested in money and fundraising, then the Finance Committee is for you. Promotions is for the artsy types and those who love making posters or painting banners in their spare time.

Leadership Council is a gigantic team. Each and every one of our members are valued because everyone contributes an important little bit to the success of our events. If you love getting to know different people while helping the school at the same time, then LC is definitely the club for you. Becoming a general member is super easy; all you have to do is fill out a simple application form that will be available to everyone in September.

Carpe Diem Haigers, and enjoy the rest of your year! It will hopefully be filled with laughs, success and lots of hard work. I look forward to seeing everyone at all the Leadership Council meetings and events.

Yours truly,
Sophia Yang
Leadership Council Director 2011-2012
